Equipment List For Slaydies Silcox Retreat

Please make sure you bring all the items on the equipment list. We have selected
these items with great care to give everyone the best chance of staying dry and
warm. The weather can be stormy at any time of year. Please call us if you have any
questions.

CLOTHING:

  • Light or medium weight long underwear top – polypropylene or capilene and/or sun hoody
  • Quickdry t-shirt – wool or synthetic
  • Light or medium weight long underwear bottom – polypropylene or capilene 
  • Lightweight fleece or Softshell Jacket
  • Down or synthetic insulated puffy jacket
  • Waterproof/breathable (Goretex or equivalent) pants or bibs 
  • Waterproof/breathable (Goretex or equivalent) shell jacket with hood
  • Warm socks – wool or wool/synthetic blend
  • 1 medium weight pair of gloves (softshell or waterproof)
  • 1 heavy weight waterproof pair gloves or mittens
  • Fleece or wool hat
  • Buff, neck gaiter or balaclava
  • Sun hat or trucker hat
  • Sunglasses (should be high-quality, dark, large and fit snugly or have side-shields.)
  • Ski goggles (optional)
  • Medium duffel bag – to transport personal gear to the Silcox Hut
  • Comfortable clothing for the Silcox Hut (jeans, sweatpants, t shirt, slippers, etc.)
  • Hygiene kit – toiletries, personal meds, earplugs (recommended)
  • Electronics and chargers (the hut has both wifi and electricity!

PERSONAL GEAR:

  • 30-40 liter Ski Pack for one day trips (ex: Ortovox Ascent 32)
  • Sun block (SPF 30 or higher) & lip balm (SPF 15 or higher)
  • Two 1 liter water bottles (ex: Nalgene)
  • Headlamp
  • Small stuff sack for lunch/snacks
  • Toilet paper/blue bags (for touring, just in case!)

RESCUE GEAR:

  • Avalanche transceiver with good batteries (available for rent)
  • Shovel (available for rent)
  • Avalanche probe (available for rent)

SKI GEAR

  • Touring Skis or Splitboard
  • Touring ski boots
  • Ski poles
  • Climbing skins
  • Ski crampons
  • Ski helmet (recommended)

TECHNICAL CLIMBING GEAR:

  • Crampons (available to rent)
  • Ice axe (50cm to 65cm long, available to rent)
  • Harness (available to rent)
  • Glacier rope (recommended)
  • Glacier kit (recommended): 5 locking carabiners, 4 non-locking carabiners, prusik cord, double length sling, triple length sling, quad sling or cordalette, micro traction device, plate style belay device
