Whether you have been ducking ropes into the sidecountry and bootpacking your local roadside slopes, or you’ve just been drooling over all the videos on Instagram from a chairlift, this program is for you. The focus of this program is to introduce skills and techniques. And, of course, we get as much downhill as we can throughout the day.
Please join us for this one-day introductory program for skiers and split boarders. We will begin with the basics; introduction to backcountry ski/splitboard equipment, skinning techniques, as well as some instruction on avalanche beacon usage and rescue techniques. This program is ideal for folks who have never skied outside of the resorts before. We run this program in Central Oregon in the winter.
If you haven’t yet explored the world of backcountry skiing and splitboarding, this Winter is your next opportunity.
The day begins with the basics of avalanche safety – basic use of beacons, shovels and probes. After that, we head uphill to take advantage of some of the best riding terrain in Oregon. Along the way, your guide will instruct efficient skinning technique and track-setting. They’ll teach you some critical skills for making uphill turns, and help you dial-in your transitions so that you get more time riding for all your uphill effort.
This program is skill-based and the goal is to help you learn the skills to get out into the backcountry with confidence, all while finding and riding as much vertical as we can.
